STAY CONNECTED.

I think for the most part that friends and family can be negative about other people’s travels because they are worried.Maybe they don’t travel themselves much or just care about you a lot, which is something very special. I take that very seriously, and that means when I am on the road I stay in as much contact as possible with my family especially.I send them my itineraries in advance, let them know when my plane lands, and send updates and messages while on the road. I know that means a lot, especially to my mom.

YOUR SAFETY IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

This one is obvious enough, but it’s unbelievable how many travellers get too comfortable too soon on their holiday and end up having their luggage stolen. Simple habits like not leaving your phone/laptop on the table when dining at a restaurant ensures your belongings remain safe. Avoid taking out your laptop/tablet in public places, unless necessary. Ensure you make photo copies of your passport, visa and other important documents and carry them with you. Also, carry change and avoid flashing big bills in public. Needless to say, keep an eye on your passport and wallet; nothing dampens a holiday more than lost luggage.  It is also a good idea to label your luggage with an address it can be returned to, if lost.Exude confidence and always stick to main roads and well-lit areas.

SEIZURE THE MOMENTS.

Click lots of pictures and make your solo trip the striking one. Share them with your friends and family.

GET FUSION.

Lastly, don’t fret and have fun! Travelling alone is a great way to discover yourself and make friends around the world. Use this opportunity to explore and appreciate new cultures, chat up with the locals, relish local food and just relax. The world is a wonderful place with many amazing people. Don’t let fear pull you back.

DON’T BE CAUTIOUS EATING ALONE.

Alone does not mean lonely.Unaccompanied is not unhappy. We are usually so used to dining in a group that the thought of eating alone strikes as an odd and uncomfortable one. Many people have no issue with it but others believe there is a social stigma associated with eating alone. They feel it and they don’t like it. Even some diehard solo travelers find dining alone difficult. If you love to read, carry your book. When you start feeling a little uneasy or conscious sitting alone, you can crack open your book.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT.

Try to break out of your comfort zone. You don’t have to indulge in extreme activities. Engage in mini adventures – go on a hike or perform at an open-mic night. The advantage of not being with a group is that you’re more likely to be open to activities you wouldn’t otherwise indulge in when the people you know are around.By the end of your trip, you will not only have created beautiful memories but will also have a renewed passion for exploring and understanding the world.
